Leopardstown preview

February 7th, 2010 by Gary O Brien

Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup day is one of the highlights of the Irish racing calendar, and the 2010 renewal of the famous 3m chase looks well up to scratch. Yes, there may be no Denman or Kauto Star, but with the likes of Money Trix, Joncol and Notre Pere – second, third and fourth in the Lexus Chase – and RSA Chase winner Cooldine (who disappointed in that race) a fantastic spectacle remains on the cards. Joncol may just have the edge this time.

Roberto Goldback was an impressive winner of a Grade 2 at today’s venue last month and should be hard to beat in the Dr PJ Moriarty Novice Chase. Weapon’s Amnesty and Cousin Vinny are amongst his most interesting rivals.

Dunguib will be a red-hot favourite to cement his position as the one to beat in the Supreme Novice Hurdle with another commanding performance in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle.

Pittoni has looked good in winning both starts over hurdles, and with Carlito Brigante in action at Musselburgh instead has a great opportunity to strike at Grade 1 level in the opening juvenile contest.
