Naas preview
July 7th, 2010 by Gary O BrienThose who enjoy a ‘quick death’ will be in their element at Naas for Wednesday evening’s fixture, with none of the seven races down for decision being run in excess of a mile.
The action kicks off with a couple of 6f two year-old maidens and both are likely to feature short-priced favourites, with Queen Of Spain in the opening fillies contest in particular looking a solid market leader. Aidan O’Brien’s filly was a creditable seventh to Memory in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot, form which looks even better in light of the winner’s stunning triumph in this afternoon’s Cherry Hinton Stakes.
Rudolf Valentino‘s fourth to Longhunter at Leopardstown in May hasn’t worked out quite so well, but he looks another worthy odds-on shot for Ballydoyle in the colts and geldings race. Stable-mate Sherwood Forest is an interesting newcomer and the market should give a good idea of what he might be capable of.
Pat Flynn continues to enjoy a good season and the Waterford handler has sound prospects in two of the later handicaps. Aoibhinn, his representative in the 7f event at 8.00, is far better than her recent form figures suggest and can go close for Gary Carroll, while the capable of Birregurra and lightly-raced Talkin Kate are both contenders for the 1m apprentice event.
Bass Rock has proved rather costly to follow in his brief career to date, but John Oxx’s charge might be worth one more chance in the concluding 1m maiden.
