Gary O’Brien is a journalist and broadcaster best-known as the presenter of satellite racing channel At The Races’ Irish coverage. Now responsible for fronting up to 150 days per year of live action from the country’s 27 racecourses, as well as conducting stable visits and other features, he previously spent two years in London working as a commentator/voiceover for ATR production company SIS.
A regular contributor to publications such as the Irish Field, Irish Racing Yearbook and the attheraces.com website, Gary assumed the role of Irish columnist for Racing + when the newspaper went daily for the first time at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. Since 2005 he has also been part of BBC Radio 5 Live’s four-man commentary team at the John Smith’s Grand National meeting at Aintree – calling the big race from Valentine’s Brook to the Melling Road.
